This customer needed a way to guarantee that parts introduced to the cleaning process are associated with the correct work order at the end of the cleaning process, eliminating errors that could adversely affect patients and potentially cost incredible sums of money. For this solution we introduced photoelectric sensors to detect the beginning of the process and barcode technology that can withstand a nitric acid bath.

The parts are associated with work orders at the beginning of the cleaning process, and then verified at the end. Barcodes eliminate the possibility of human data entry errors, and the sensors trigger alarms if the barcode scanning step is not completed properly. We used MS SQL Server and the dot net framework for the technology platform. The scanning devices used were Motorola MK2000 Kiosks, which are durable and require very little space in terms of footprint. An Allen Bradley PLC drives the photoelectric sensors and alarms. On top of ensuring accuracy, this tactical solution does not impede any pre-existing processes.

Or like a TMS (Tactical Management System) that was built for a leading manufacturer of roller chain. We introduced barcode technology and portable RF data terminals. The solution collected data and tracked raw material from receipt, through the manufacturing process, to the stocking of finished goods, and sent updates to the host MFG/PRO system along the way through QAD's CIM interface. The solution included many modules and was quite complex, but totally custom. And of course the tactical solution did not hinder operations.
